Shop Talk November 2008

It's hard to believe another year has nearly gone and I will be entering my 52nd year as a knifemaker. Hibben Knives is staying busy making handmade custom knives, working with United Cutlery on our factory production knife line, and working with the Knifemaker's Guild.

We just put together our 2009 schedule for knifemaking classes. We will be offering 4 classes in 2009. Each class is limited to 5 students so the students will get a lot of individual attention and come away with a great custom knife. If you are interested in learning to make knives, this is a good place to start. Many of our students had never made a knife before. Some wanted only to make a special knife for themselves while others have gone on to set up their own knifemaking shops. For more information please see our Knifemaking Class page on our website HERE.

We also set our 2009 show schedule. Come on out and visit with us. We would love to meet you. If you have never attended a custom knife show you don't know what you are missing. You can find our show schedule HERE.

I was honored to be re-elected to my second term as President of the Knifemaker's Guild. This is especially exciting this year as the Guild moves in new directions and is experiencing a terrific rejuvenation as one of the oldest and most prestigious international organizations of custom knifemakers. In September 2009, the annual Knifemaker's Guild Show is moving to a new home at the luxurious Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville, KY. The Guild Show had a great run of eight years in Orlando, Florida but we think the new venue and more central location will be fantastic. The response has been great and the show tables are already nearly sold out! The Guild Show is the premier showcase for many of the finest knifemakers in the world, all Guild members, to show and sell their creations. Mark your calendar now for September 18-20, 2009 as this will be one of the best custom knife shows ever.

We are very pleased and excited about our continued relationship with the new United Cutlery. I have licensed United Cutlery to make factory reproductions of many of my knives. In 2008-2009 we adding several new models to the line and bringing back some old favorites. We continued our annual collector series with the 2009 edition, the "Dragon's Lair" sword. We have added some new throwing knives, the "HTF Recon" hunter/tactical, and replicas of knives I have made for movies such as the "Hibben III Fighter" and "Hibben IV Machete" which are modeled after the knives I designed and made for the Rambo movies. Also, be sure to check out my "Hibben IV Combat Machete". Long-time collectors will remember some of my early collector series knives like the "Silver Shadow" and "Double Shadow" from the 1990s. In response to popular demand, we are bringing them back for another run. Look for even more exciting new knives from United Cutlery in 2009.

I continue to make handmade knives for custom orders every day. Many collectors, soldiers, hunters and outdoorsmen want something special, unique and dependable. I work hard to meet those needs. Whether it is an entirely new design or a variation of one my previous models, I make every knife entirely by hand and make them to last a lifetime. If any of you are interested in a one-of-a-kind Hibben knife, give me a call and we'll see what we can do for you.

Linda and I want to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and extend our best wishes to you for the Holidays and the new year. As always, we thank you for your continued support and we count our blessings for the many friends that knifemaking has brought to us. May 2009 be even better and brighter for us all.
