Hi all. I am new to this forum. I am about to buy the black highlander uc-627b. My first one. Knife comes with the signed sheath. Box says black and silver on it. But the seller, can't find the serial number on the back of the blade. According to the hibben model chart, there is no FPR etching. Only the ser# on the back of the blade. Again, the seller cannot find it. Only sees uc627. Can anyone explain,or better yet, have a picture showing where the ser# is. I do not want the black regular production knife. No serial or etching. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

John,
I'm really confused on this one, can you post a photo? I don't even remember a black handle with silver wire wrap on a Highlander. I remember a gold wire wrap. Then again, that was a long time ago and I may have plain forgotten about it.
By the way, welcome to the forum!

JohnF,
As Linda stated, There is not a Black handled Highlander with silver wire wrapped handle. There is a Black Handled twisted gold wire wrapped model that was frequently refered to as the Black Silver Highlander. As far as FPR designation goes, I have never seen a Black Highlander with the FPR Etch on the blade. There is a' NUMBERED' only model. According to Kit Rae only about 750 were produced. So it is not seen to often. Every one that I have seen( Numbered Edition ) had the sheath and box signed by Gil.
Gil frequently signs sheaths and boxes for buyers at knife shows,so a signed sheath and/or box would not be unheard of on an unnumbered 'custom design series' knife.
Sounds like this is just such a knife.
Hope this is of help to you and welcome to the forum.

Terry,
Thanks for the information, this one had me scratching my head! Terry is absolutely correct, we have had collectors bring a bag full of sheaths to a knife show for Gil to sign and he is always happy to do so.

Linda,
You are quite welcome. I have kind of made it my mission in life, my collecting life, to find as much information on the various United Cutlery 'editions' of Gil's knives. And there are quite a few. Especially in the time when United Cutlery did 'in house' etching and numbering, before 1999/2000.

Hi all. Thanks for your help. And the nice welcome. The exact knife, signed box,and sheath,is on E-Bay right now. And when i Google under hibben model chart, it says, the serial number is the same place the Mortal Kombat Raptor's is. Since i don't have that knife,i will just have to look the Highlander over good when i get it, for the serial number. Which this knife should have. Unless it's a black highlander, without a serial number. And to me in that case, would be a regular production knife. Not the 1-750 with the serial number. Sorry for the confusion. I should of explained myself better. I think i got it right. I am a newbie. Anyway serial number or not,it's a keeper. Again, thanks very much for the welcome, and help!

On a highlander side note... is anyone aware of when UC will actually start releasing the re-issue?? The originals sell for exorbitant amounts on ebay most of the time (rightfully so, of course). Just curious!
